What is the mechanism of phototherapy?
Phototherapy involves giving UV light rays at particular wavelength (NBUVB: 311±2 nm, UVA: 320-380 nm). This light rays have immune modulating function along with inhibition of cell division.
What are the indications?
- Psoriasis Vulgaris
- Vitiligo
- Morphea
- Atopic dermatitis
- Intractable Pruritus
What is the cost of the treatment?
For whole body treatment the cost may vary between 300-500 INR per session.
How many sessions are required?
It varies from one patient to another. Response may be achieved anywhere between 20-100 sessions.
What are side-effects of this treatment?
With proper precautions like use of sunglasses and sun protection, phototherapy is quite safe treatment.
