Hair Fall Treatment

Why do we lose hair?

It is normal for people to shed some hair daily. In fact, 80-100 strands are shed daily. Almost same number of hair re grows daily. When the scalp hair start to thin out and become sparse and when more hair is lost and the scalp is unable to re-grow the loss, you should get concerned and get yourself checked by a dermatologist.

Hair follicles which are responsible for hair growth become inactive. They either stop producing hair or produce hair that are not strong enough and fall off. Hair loss is also known as alopecia. Hair loss occurs in two ways: one, patchy hair loss, where certain areas of scalp lose all the hair while the rest retains a good growth; and two, generalized hair loss, where there is uniform thinning of hair all over the scalp.

There are many causes of hair loss. Stress, dietary deficiencies/ poor nutrition, anemia, fungal infections are some of the causes. .Thyroid and other hormonal problems are important causes in men and women. DHT, a male hormone is thought to be the main cause for male pattern baldness. Over production of this hormone can trigger hair loss.

It is very important to diagnose the real cause of your hair loss. Any treatment option chosen is effective only when the real cause is diagnosed. At Bindal clinic, the treatment plan is decided by a dermatologist experienced in managing hair fall. Not only we can stop further hair loss but we can also induce new hair growth.

  • Treatment aims at treating the cause and may include some oral medicines and some local ointments, lotions and shampoos.
  • PRP (Platlet rich Plasma) is very effective treatment for few types of hair loss.
  • There are some lasers to treat hair loss along with mesotherapy in which the medicines for stimulating the hair growth like some growth hormones and minerals are infused/pushed directly into the skin.
  • There are very advanced surgical options like FUE/stitch less surgery for hair grafting.

Treating hair loss is a long drawn process. At the start of the treatment many patient will notice increased hair loss. This is because after the medication starts, the hair follicles are stimulated to produce new hair shafts. These new hair shafts try to come up and in the process dislodge the old hair. This is just a part of hair re-growth and one should not be worried about it. The results will take at least 2-3 months and sometimes a year, to be visible.

Both local applications and oral treatments are extremely safe. Sometimes hormonal treatment may need to be given. In experienced hands, there are hardly any side effects.
